Drug and Alcohol Addiction

Effects of Drug Addiction

Marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in United States and is obtained from dried flower, stem, leaves, and seeds of female cannabis plant. Marijuana is a psychoactive drug and abused as it gives a sense of high or euphoria and relaxation.

Drug addiction has been a problem for centuries. Opium, heroin and cocaine were predominantly used for medicinal purposes until the high addiction rates and resulting problems led to these substances becoming banned.

    Am I an Addict?

Drug use is a very common reality in all cultures worldwide. Rave parties, dinner parties, birthdays, New Year, office parties: often we celebrate these occasions with social drug use and alcohol abuse.

Cocaine dependence is a more severe case of cocaine abuse, and the cocaine user usually spends large amounts of money to buy cocaine in a short period of time. Money is a scarce commodity, and to support the cocaine habit, the cocaine user may become involved in drug dealing, theft, or prostitution.

The cocaine user may grossly neglect work or childcare. On the behavioral/psychological level, the cocaine user may experience paranoid ideation, anxiety, depression, or aggressive behavior.
